Care for Your Smile with Routine Treatment
Dentist, Little Rock
The importance of oral health cannot be overstated; disease-free teeth and gums are at the root of any beautiful smile. Routine professional examinations and cleanings serve as the foundation of a healthy and beautiful smile, and other general dentistry services at our Little Rock practice - such as fillings, bonding, and extractions - can treat dental issues before they become even more troublesome. We invite you to contact our dental practice, also serving Maumelle, North Little Rock, Bryant, Benton, Conway, and surrounding communities.
Examinations and Check-ups
Optimal oral health requires consistent attention and treatment. To maintain healthy, clean teeth and gums, experts recommend bi-annual dental appointments for professional examinations and cleanings. These appointments allow Dr. Cloud to check for any budding signs of dental disease and give him the opportunity to treat problems quickly, before they can develop into something more serious.
If a tooth sustains damage and a certain amount of its structure needs to be removed, the dentist will fill it with a tooth-colored composite material. This strengthens the tooth and preserves its natural shape. Tooth-colored fillings are advantageous over traditional metal or amalgam fillings for several reasons:
- They blend in aesthetically with the surrounding teeth.
- The material is safer than mercury-containing metal fillings.
- They do not compromise the strength of the tooth (as metal fillings can).
- Sensitivity to hot and cold foods and beverages is decreased.
- Less tooth structure needs to be reduced.
Dental bonding is a technique used to conceal minor flaws in the teeth, such as small cracks, chips, discoloration, or uneven spaces between the teeth. During a dental bonding treatment, Dr. Cloud prepares the tooth by lightly scuffing it to ensure that the bonding material adheres easily to the tooth. Then, he applies a resin material to the tooth and carefully sculpts it to achieve the desired shape and size. It is cured with a special light and buffed to a shine that resembles the surrounding teeth.
Bonding is a more conservative option than alternatives such as porcelain veneers. It’s also quick and typically complication-free. The downsides to bonding are that it doesn’t last as long as other cosmetic dentistry options, and the bonding material is susceptible to staining.
